The Independent Gallery is a contemporary art space located in the former home of The Elkhorn Independent newspaper in historic downtown Elkhorn, Wisconsin. For generations, the building served as a place where stories were printed and distributed throughout the community. Today, it continues that tradition through a different medium, presenting exhibitions, installations, and public programs centered on contemporary art.

Founded in 2026 by internationally recognized artist Jesse Draxler, The Independent Gallery was established to bring ambitious contemporary art to the region while creating opportunities for dialogue between local audiences and artists working nationally and internationally. Draxler's work has been exhibited worldwide and has entered prominent private and institutional collections, including sales through Christie's. His practice spans fine art, publishing, music, and fashion.

Housed within one of Elkhorn's historic buildings, the gallery embraces the relationship between past and present. The pressrooms that once produced the local newspaper now serve as exhibition spaces where new ideas and artistic voices are shared with the public.

The Independent Gallery is committed to presenting exhibitions across a wide range of disciplines while supporting both emerging and established artists. Through exhibitions, events, publications, and community engagement, the gallery aims to contribute to the cultural life of southeastern Wisconsin while fostering connections that extend well beyond it.

We welcome everyone and hope to see you soon.
